Feed The Resistance: le Tour de France!
It’s Tour de France time, and while it’s been a few years since I’ve been to France to take in the race in person, I still like to celebrate by eating some French food while watching the festivities on TV. I’m not sure today’s dish is actually FRENCH, but it is at least a little bit of a take on a French dish…French Onion Pasta! Basically, this is taking the idea of a classic French Onion Soup, and making a pasta sauce with it. And it’s delicious! If you’re vegetarian, it’s also a vegan dish, if you use veggie broth, although when I make it at home, I add a little Parmesan Cheese to finish it off.
To pair with the pasta, Dee chose a Dunkel beer from Warsteiner, and pointed out that this is a beer that is “naturally brewed according to the German purity law.” The beer paired perfectly with the pasta, and as we were talking, we realized that a smoked porter would also work well (I have a friend who makes a “Smoked Porter French Onion Soup”).
