Feed The Resistance: Madison’s Black Restaurant Week!

This week is Madison’s Black Restaurant Week – a week to explore, discover and celebrate black-owned restaurants throughout the Madison area.  In honor of that, I had intended to make a dish from the Marcus Samuelsson book “The Rise – Black Cooks and the Soul of American Food.”  Actually, I made the dish, but somewhere along the line, I messed it up – and it just didn’t come out the way I had intended.  Thankfully there was a very good “plan b” – I invited in some folks from the Madison Black Chamber of Commerce to tell us all about the event…and to serve up some of their food!  We dined on an amazing charcuterie board from Artemis Provisions & Cheese, and talked all about Restaurant week.  While restaurant week is quickly coming to a close, there is on big event that I encourage you to check out on Sunday – it’s the Food Taste Jamboree at Olin park on Sunday from Noon ’til 5pm, with plenty of tastings from participating food carts, caterers, sweet treat makers and specialty food businesses.

To go with the charcuterie board, Dee served up “Black is Beautiful” Black Lager from Delta Beer Lab.  Delta Beer Lab will be hosting a Madison Black Chamber of Commerce “Mix & Mingle” next Wednesday (8/21) to celebrate award winners from Black Restaurant week.
